Ever wondered why the our alphabet looks they way it does? In this wonderful animation by Prof. Robert Fradkin (the animation may be by Charlie Seljos for Dr. Fradkin), you can watch how the alphabet has evolved over time from Phoenician characters to what we use today. Letters transform, flip, and move to different places. It’s fascinating. Prof. Robert Fradkin offers other evolving alphabets (and you can find out more about this work).

Alphabet letters evolvingThe current results of evolution.

Thanks to Bill Ruhsam of Talking Traffic (and my husband) for passing this on to me via a post on Chart Porn on this.
